BEARS DROP GAME 2 VS. BISONS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. _ The Lipscomb Bisons evened their ASUN series with the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Saturday afternoon with a 9-2 victory at Ken Dugan Field.

The Bisons (25-18, 12-9) used 11 hits and one big inning _ five runs in the eighth _ to win their second game against the Bears in five tries this season. UCA (19-22, 13-7) managed just five hits against a quartet of Lipscomb pitchers. The Bears, who beat the Bisons 5-2 in the opener on Friday, scored single runs in the second and fourth innings.

UCA took a 1-0 lead on fielder's choice ground ball by redshirt freshman Tanner Leonard that brought home third baseman A.J. Mendolia, who led off the inning with a walk. In the fourth inning, Leonard had an RBI double to right to score catcher Noah Argenta, who was hit by a pitch.

Lipscomb took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth. Caleb Ketchup was 2 for 4 with 3 runs batted in, including a two-run home run. Rudy Maxwell finished 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

For the Bears, Leonard was 1 for 4 with a pair of RBI. UCA starter Jesse Barker took the loss while Lipscomb reliever Gavin Grubbs got the victory with just 1/3 of an inning, while Trey Nordmann got the save.

The deciding game of the series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
