CONWAY, Ark. – Rounding out a two-game home stand, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team faces a fourth team for the first time this season, facing Stetson on Saturday. Looking to turn a page after a pair of consecutive losses, the Sugar Bears will battle the Hatters at 1 p.m. at the Farris Center.
Hosting the first ranked opponent in the Division I era, Central Arkansas struggled to keep up with the No. 20/22 Florida Gulf Coast Eagles' three-point shooting. The number one shooting team in terms of volume, the Eagles let it fly against the Sugar Bears, shooting 52 times from beyond the arc.
Lucy Ibeh corralled her 10
th double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
One of just 28 players in the NCAA with 10 double-doubles this year, Ibeh is the first Sugar Bear with 10 double-doubles in a season since 2013-14, when Courtney Duever had 11. Ibeh leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, ranking fifth in the ASUN scoring 13.9 points per game, while ranking first in rebounding at 10.2 boards per game.
In addition to Ibeh's production,
Hannah Langhi and
Randrea Wright have picked up their numbers during conference play. Langhi now averages 11.6 points on the year, after averaging 12.6 in conference play. Both of the grad student's double-doubles have come in ASUN play, as her rebounding has improved to 6.0 boards per game. Wright, on the other hand has averaged an even 10.0 points per game during the conference schedule, including double-digit scoring in four of her last six games. The Birmingham, Ala., native also leads the team in assists, with 55 dimes on the year.
Central Arkansas has never faced Stetson, the fourth opponent of the season the Sugar Bears have never played before. As competing members of the ASUN, the teams will now face off yearly in the cross-divisional weeks of the year.
Sitting at 12-10 on the year, the Hatters hold a 5-4 ASUN record, placing them fourth in the ASUN East. Most recently, Stetson picked up a win over Lipscomb on Thursday. Three players scored 13 points for the Hatters, while the Stetson defense held an opponent under 55 points for the fourth-straight game. Stetson has only allowed one opponent (FGCU) to score 70 points this season.
Tatiana Streun and Yazz Wazeerud-Din lead the Hatters in scoring, averaging 11.8 and 11.6 ppg, respectively. Streun also leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 7.0 per game. As a team, the Hatters rank among the top-three in the ASUN in rebounding, averaging 38.3 boards per game. Stetson also thrives getting to the free throw line, sitting second in the league in free throws attempted at 375.
Head coach of the Hatters is Lynn Bria, now in her 14th season. Stetson's all-time leader in wins, Bria has led Stetson to 3 ASUN titles, 2 NCAA Tourneys, 5 WNITs and 10 trips to postseason tournaments.
