CONWAY, Ark. – With its last home game of the season on the docket, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team will host Senior Day prior to its matchup with Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. Tip-off against the Colonels is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Farris Center.
Central Arkansas will celebrate the contributions of its elder statesmen prior to tip, honoring
Carley Hudspeth,
Lucy Ibeh,
Hannah Langhi and
Savanna Walker for their dedication to the program.
The Sugar Bears picked up a much needed win on Thursday, defeating Bellarmine to complete the season sweep against the Knights. It was a balanced effort by the team, as four players scored in double-figures, and several personal-bests were set in the win over the Knights.
Hudspeth set a season-high with four three-pointers, each more timely than the last. Her shot-making in the second half was critical in keeping Bellarmine from ever taking the lead in the final frames of the game.
Ibeh added her 12
th double-double of the season, leading the Sugar Bears with 16 points and 12 rebounds, adding four steals to the mix. Thursday's performance also marked a third-straight game in which Ibeh shot better than 50 percent, and helped her maintain her spots of fourth in the conference in scoring and first in rebounding.
Two freshmen also made big impacts for Central Arkansas against the Knights.
Lashiyah Fowler scored a career-best 12 points, earning her second-straight start on Thursday.
Randrea Wright also chipped in 12 points, while adding a career-best nine assists.
With a win over another ASUN opponent, the Sugar Bears inch closer to earning a coveted top-four seed in the conference, which grants teams hosting privileges come Tournament time. Currently in fourth, the Sugar Bears sit a game above Lipscomb at the five-seed.
Eastern Kentucky rolls into town in the spot above Central Arkansas, making this game all the more important. EKU fell to North Alabama on Thursday, getting drowned in three-pointers that the Colonels couldn't answer. Only hitting two triples, Eastern Kentucky lost out on the three-point battle, surrendering 13 to the visiting Lions.
I'Liyah Green and Ariel Kirkwood put up good numbers for the Colonels. Green scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Kirkwood led the team in scoring from the bench, netting 16 points against the Lions.
For the season, the Colonels are led by Jayla Johnson's 13.2 points per game, a number that ranks fifth in the ASUN. Behind her is freshman Alice Recanati, who averages 10.3 points per game and leads the conference with 119 assists. Recanati also ranks second in the conference in steals, coming away with 49 swipes this year.
Eastern Kentucky defeated Central Arkansas in the last meeting back in January, taking a 61-46 win over the Sugar Bears.
