CONWAY, Ark. – Returning to games on the West side of the ASUN, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team faces Jacksonville State in a rematch from earlier in the season. Both teams coming off of losses, each side will be searching for a way back into the win column as the teams battle on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. at the Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Sugar Bears look to bounce back after a loss to Kennesaw State on Wednesday. After taking an early lead, breaking the press and demonstrating good ball movement, the tide turned in favor of the Owls, as the home team forced turnovers from the Sugar Bears, scoring 17 points off of those miscues.
In addition to the early ball movement and confidence breaking the press, another bright spot in the game was
Lucy Ibeh. Dominant on the boards early, Ibeh recorded her 11
th double-double of the season with 18 points and 15 rebounds. It marked the fourth time the junior forward has notched 15 rebounds or more this season, including each of the last two games.
With her output on Wednesday, Ibeh puts herself back in fourth place in the ASUN in scoring at 13.8 points per game, and grows her lead in rebounding, now averaging 10.7 rebounds per game. She also maintains a top-five spot in steals per game, at 2.0 per contest.
Another Sugar Bear that has played well lately is
Carley Hudspeth. After falling in a bit of a slump from beyond the arc, the senior guard has hit five shots from three-point range over her last two games, giving her seven games of multiple three-pointers this season. She leads the team in three-pointers with 22 shots from downtown.
Jacksonville State currently holds the best record in the ASUN West, with a 17-6 record overall, and an 8-3 ASUN slate. The Gamecocks' last outing saw them fall by four at Stetson on Wednesday. Suffering the worst three-point shooting game of the season, Jacksonville State shot just 2-of-18 from three, just one of several uncharacteristic statlines from the Gamecocks.
Leading her team in scoring this season, Imari Martin shot 1-of-10 from three against the Hatters, still managing 10 points on seven free throws. Martin ranks third in the ASUN in made three-pointers, canning 54 to this point in the year, and is just one of three players in the conference to make 50 this season.
A team that thrives on skewing the number of possessions, the Gamecocks rank 10
th in the nation in fewest turnovers per game, coughing it up just 12.0 times per game, helping them to a ranking of 14 in turnover margin, forcing 6.09 more turnovers than their opponents get from them.
Tip-off against the Gamecocks is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. at the Pete Mathews Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on
