Bears to Face Lipscomb in ASUN Championship

CONWAY, Ark. - Championship Saturday is upon the Central Arkansas men's soccer team! Playing for the ASUN Championship title on Saturday, the Bears will square off against the No. 1 seed Lipscomb for the second time this season. Kickoff against the Bisons is set for 7 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn.

The Bears (6-4-6, 5-1-2 ASUN) made it to the championship game after downing the No. 6 seed Bellarmine on PKs Monday night. Tied 2-2 after 110 minutes of soccer, Zach Schawl blanked the Knights in the shootout, stopping three-straight shots to punch the Bears' ticket to Saturday's Final. It marks the second-straight ASUN final for the Bears, who also went last season, the team's first in the league.

Also in Monday's semifinal, Sebastian Andreassen notched a goal and an assist, scoring the first goal for the Bears before hitting the assist on the equalizer. It brings the Norwegian forward to eight goals and six assists, giving him 22 points on the year. He became the first Bear since Niklas Brodacki in 2019 to cross the 20 point threshold and is one of two players in the ASUN to hit the mark this season.

Taking on Lipscomb for the fourth time in two years, the Bears will have to figure something out against the Bisons, currently unsuccessful in the previous three matches. This year's regular season matchup saw the Bears go down to 10 players after being shown a red card, eventually falling 3-0 in Conway.

Meanwhile, the Bisons (13-2-2, 7-1 ASUN) have put together one of the program's most successful seasons, earning a ranking of 12 in United Soccer Coaches' poll, with an RPI of 11, carrying only one loss into Saturday's championship game. In Monday's semifinal in Nashville, Lispcomb scored the game winner against the No. 4 seed Florida Gulf Coast in the 108th minute of the second overtime, snatching a result just before going to PKs.

Saturday's battle also marks the second ASUN championship game between the teams. Last season's conference tournament played out the exact same, with the Bears and Bisons cleaning house en route to a heavyweight fight in Nashville. That ASUN Final ended in favor of the Bisons, so the Bears are out for revenge.

Saturday's championship round will take place in Nashville, Tenn., at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. As an ASUN tournament game, the event will be ticketed, with tickets available here. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, and live stats are available here.
