CONWAY, Ark. – Off to face the ASUN's newest member, the Central Arkansas men's soccer team hits the road to play Queens on Saturday. Kicking off at 5 p.m., Saturday's match marks the first-ever meeting between the Bears and Royals.
The Bears head into the weekend with a 4-4-2 record, carrying a 3-1 conference mark. Last time out, the team earned a draw against Oral Roberts, scoring a pair of goals late to recover from a 2-0 hole.
Mathias Bendiksen put Central Arkansas on the board in the 72
nd minute, and
Richy Lapointe-Guevara knotted the score just a few minutes later.
Guevara's goal was his third of the season, moving him into a three-way tie for team lead. While the Bears haven't had a dominant goal scorer this season, nine Bears have found the back of the net this season, including six players with multiple goals. Through 10 matches, Central Arkansas has scored 18 goals, the second-most in the ASUN.
Saturday's match marks the first of three road matches in the next four for the Bears. As Central Arkansas closes out the regular season, the team has two league matches at home and two on the road, with an away game at Kansas City in the mix on October 25
th.
With four ASUN matches left on the schedule, the Bears currently sit in second place, a game behind Lipscomb. Holding a two-point lead over Stetson, Central Arkansas is well on its way to hosting part of the ASUN Championship again this season.
Joining the ASUN this past summer, Queens has had a tough time adapting to its first season as a Division I institute, out to a 1-8 record with an 0-3 start to conference play. Currently on a four-game slide, last time out for the Royals was a 1-0 loss to North Florida.
Despite the struggles, Queens has found success with sophomore midfielder Mario Goic. Leading the team in scoring with four goals, Goic ranks fourth in the ASUN in scoring, also standing at second in the league with 32 shots.
Saturday's match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. CT kickoff in Charlotte. The game will be broadcast on
