JONESBORO, Ark. – With two top-10 finishers on day one, the Central Arkansas women's golf team rises to second place at the Lady Red Wolves Classic after 36 holes. Led by
Elin Kumlin and
Tania Nunez, the Bears are off to their best start of the season.
Kumlin and Nunez are currently tied for seventh through two rounds, both girls ending the day at 4-under 140. Kumlin turned in a masterpiece of a second round, hitting only one bogey, compared to four birdies. Nunez, for her part, had three bogeys the entire day, erased by her seven birdies through two rounds.
Sophomore
Madison Holmes rose 10 spots from round one to two, as she put together an even 72 for her second round. Through 36 holes, Holmes is in 21
st place with a score of 145. Pim-orn Thitisup played herself into the top 30, also improving her position with a quality second round. Playing a 72 on her second set of 18 holes, Thitisup capped the day with two birdies on her last three holes.
After stumbling out of the gates, freshman
Valeria Ramirez recovered down the stretch to end the day with some momentum, birdying four of her last six holes in round two to lift herself seven spots on the leaderboard. Checking in at five strokes over par, Ramirez played her way to a 1-over 73 in round two. Playing the Classic as an individual,
Camila Moreno joined her fellow Colombian on the way up the rankings, also tallying a 1-over 73 in the second round to move up 13 spots.
Pear Rittawee also turned in some quality golf through two rounds, compiling eight birdies on her way to a 7-over 151 after 36 holes.
Louisiana-Monroe leads the field through two rounds, currently 17 strokes below par. The Bears are in second place at 5-under 571, with the hosting Red Wolves of Arkansas State in third place. Individually, Troy's ShaeBug Scarberry and Arkansas State's Elise Shultz and Olivia Schmidt are all tied for first place at 8-under 136.
Central Arkansas will play one more round of golf on Tuesday, wrapping up the Lady Red Wolves Classic.
