CONWAY, Ark. – On the road for the first time in two weeks, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team (7-10, 2-4 ASUN) heads to Florida for a pair of games, starting with a first-ever meeting with North Florida (9-9, 2-4 ASUN). Both teams are coming off of ASUN wins, sitting at 2-4 in conference play. Tip-off against the Ospreys is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
The Sugar Bears return to the road after a gritty, defensive win over North Alabama on Monday. Holding the Lions to a pair of single-digit scoring quarters, Central Arkansas locked up a Lions team that boasted a top three-point percentage in the conference. The Sugar Bears held North Alabama to 27 percent from beyond the arc, allowing just six three-pointers on the afternoon. From there, the size and length of the Sugar Bears controlled the boards and the paint, leading to 38 points in the paint and 19 second-chance points.
Hannah Langhi led all scorers with 18 points, adding a season-best 15 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Lucy Ibeh added 14 points and 12 rebounds for her league-leading eighth double-double of the year. Reigning ASUN Freshman of the Week
Randrea Wright added eight points and five assists in the win. Wright has four-straight games of at least three dimes, with a pair of games with five.
Central Arkansas rebounded from a string of losses to get back into the win column, claiming its second conference win of the year. The Sugar Bears have had success when the defense is in gear, as the team only allows the fourth-most points in the ASUN during conference play. The team also holds the fourth-best rebounding margin, outrebounding its foes by 3.2 boards per game. On Monday, the Sugar Bears outrebounded the Lions 48-32.
Across the court from the Sugar Bears will be a new set if faces in first-time opponent North Florida. Sitting at an even 9-9 on the year, the Ospreys have won their last two games, taking ASUN wins over Kennesaw State and Eastern Kentucky. Thursday's host team opened its season 5-2 before falling on hard times, suffering a 2-7 sump before reboundnig the last couple of games.
Averaging almost 69 points per game this season, the Ospreys are led by Jazz Bond, who averages the second-most points in the conference at 16.5 points per game. Bond also leads the team in rebounds, pulling in 8.0 boards per contest.
As a team, North Florida leads the ASUN in blocked shots, averaging 5.1 blocks per game. On offense, the Ospreys sport the third-highest scoring offense in the conference.
