CONWAY, Ark. – After a couple of postponements, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team finally looks to introduce the ASUN era to the Farris Center with its first home game of the conference schedule. The Sugar Bears will face the Bisons of Lipscomb on Monday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m., as the first leg of a three-game home stand for the team.
Last time out for Central Arkansas was a momentous occasion for the program's history, as the Sugar Bears captured the first win as a member of the ASUN with a win over Bellarmine on Wednesday. The 55-41 win came in large part to the defensive lockdown of the Sugar Bears. Down four after the first quarter, Central Arkansas held the Knights below ten points in all three remaining quarters, allowing Bellarmine to shoot just 22 percent from the floor after the first quarter.
Offensively,
Hannah Langhi and
Lucy Ibeh both posted double-doubles, marking the first time teammates have done so since March 6 of last season. Langhi tied a season-high with 17 points, set a season-high with 13 rebounds, all while adding four assists and a career-high five blocks. Ibeh, for her part, logged 20 points and 10 rebounds to claim her seventh double-double of the season.
The duo leads the Sugar Bears in scoring, with Ibeh topping the list at 15.3 points per game, while Langhi adds 10.8 points per contest. With five-straight games of 20-plus points, Ibeh has risen to No. 3 in the ASUN in scoring, while also leading the league in rebounding at 10.5 rebounds per game. The junior forward also leads the ASUN in double-doubles and free throw attempts, while ranking third in steals per game at 2.1.
Monday marks the first of a three-game home stand for the Sugar Bears, all of which take place in six days. Central Arkansas has played well at home this season, earning a 5-1 record at the Farris Center.
Lipscomb travels to Conway on short rest, having played Saturday against Bellarmine. Three players scored in double-figures for the Bisons in the 65-54 win, their first ASUN win of the season.
Despite not having a single player averaging double-figure scoring this season, Lipscomb does have seven players averaging at least seven points per game. Pearson Blythe leads the team overall, with 9.4 points per game, shooting 47 percent from the field and 45 percent from three. Prior to Saturday, Blythe was on a six-game streak of double-figure scoring, including a season-high 20 points against Tennessee State.
Head coach of the Bisons is Lauren Sumski, now in her third season at the helm. A standout player at Rhodes College, Sumski is the first female head coach for Lipscomb in the school's Division I era. In her first season as head coach, she doubled the team's ASUN wins from the prior season while coaching Jalyn Holcomb to the program's first ASUN Freshman of the Year.
Tip-off against the Bisons is set for 1 p.m. at the Farris Center. The game will be broadcast on
