BATON ROUGE, La. – The Central Arkansas beach volleyball team concluded the Battle on the Bayou on Saturday against Spring Hill College, ULM, and New Orleans. The Beach Bears dropped all three matches on the day and fell to 15-12 overall.
Match One – Spring Hill 4, UCA 1
Julia Oravec and
Kayla Cook collected UCA's only win of the match as they defeated Natalie Bonner and Brooke Borgmeyer in the No. 4 position 21-19 and 21-19.
In the No. 1 spot, Payton Gidney and Kassandra Fairly bested
Aly Brinkley and
Colene Hamilton 21-19 and 21-15. Sarah Senft and Kikayla Boyer knocked off
Evelyn Griffith and
Faith Hasness 26-24 and 22-20 in the No. 2 matchup. Allison Weimer and Leanne Sorrel beat
Kelsie Sager and
Makenna Schmitt 21-19 and 21-18 in the No. 3 pairing. Linnea Beger and Kyla Shappell defeated
Shannon Stone and
Bria Garmon 21-17, 15-21, and 15-11 in the No. 5 position.
Match Two – ULM 4, UCA 1
Oravec and Cook were the only win in the second match of the day as they knocked off Ina Gosen and Holland Ponthieux 21-18 and 21-17 at the No. 4 spot.
Audrey Brooks and Julia Blazek bested Brinkley and Hamilton 21-11 and 21-14 in the No. 1 matchup. At the No. 2 position, Anna Demmer and Katie McKay defeated Hasness and Griffith 21-19 and 22-10. Kayla Gallant and Abigail Elder defeated Sager and Schmitt 21-13 and 21-17 in the No. 3 pairing. In the No. 5 spot, Elizabeth Moreland and Brooke Hoven bested Stone and Garmon 21-14 and 21-11.
Match Three – New Orleans 3, UCA 2
The Beach Bears mixed up the pairing in the final match of the day. Schmitt and Hasness knocked off Brianna Vega and Liz Gialanella 19-21, 21-14, and 20-18 at the No. 3 position.
Payton Sproule and Garmon defeated Trinity Jackson and Hannah Volpi 21-14, 13-21, and 18-16 at the No. 4 spot.
In the No. 1 pairing, Veronica Cocoran and Victoria Corcoran bested Griffith and Hamilton 19-21, 21-13 and 15-9. Maxine Walsh and Ally Carr beat Brinkley and Sager in the No. 2 matchup 21-18 and 21-17. Alexa Spartz and Madeline Drake defeated Cook and Oravec in the No. 4 spot 21-19 and 21-17.
The Beach Bears return to the sand for the Blazer Beach Bash hosted by UAB on Friday, April 16. First serves are scheduled for 8 a.m. as UCA faces Coastal Carolina in the first contest of the day.
