NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Central Arkansas Men's Soccer Team travels to Nashville to take on the Bruins from Belmont Thursday. The Bears will play their first match in two weeks after having an away trip to UAB cancelled due to weather.
TEAM NEWS
The Bears return multiple players that missed the last match against Saint Louis including
Edoardo Calzola and
Pablo Azcona, who both picked up injuries early in the spring season. Coach
Ross Duncan will have a full squad to select from for this non-conference match.
FORM GUIDE
The Bears come off a 2-1 win over Kansas City in early February, with multiple players finding very good form.
Rubyn Singh Gill scored both goals in the win, putting him in the best form since joining the Bears last August.
Edoardo Merci and
Rowan Laufer have been playing their best soccer of the season and look to continue their fine form.
As for the Bruins, they come off a 3-0 win over Bellarmine last Sunday. The upcoming match will be the Bruins' second of the season after pushing all matches to the spring season. AJ Chastonay scored two goals for Belmont in their season opener.
HEAD TO HEAD
This is only the second meeting between the sides, with the first coming in 2013. Belmont bettered Central Arkansas that year, earning a 4-0 win in Nashville.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
The Bears have multiple players catching form, but one player who has slowly progressed over the past season is
Zach Schawl. The freshman goalkeeper has been strong in goal and looks to keep a clean sheet. Another Bear that has kept good form over the past two matches in the spring season is
Ilya Busaev, a senior from Moscow, Russia, who has found good form playing in the left wing back role.
HEAR FROM THE COACH
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete again. We have had a good break between matches and been able to focus on the continued development of our group as well as getting some guys healthy. Belmont is a strong side and are coming off of a very good result this past weekend. We expect a difficult challenge but I feel very good about how our group has been training and preparing," said Coach
Ross Duncan ahead of the match.
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 in Nashville, Tennessee.
