CONWAY, Ark. – Central Arkansas women's basketball hits the road to play its part in the fourth Governor's I-40 Challenge, squaring off against Little Rock on Saturday. Game time against the Trojans is set for 2 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
The Sugar Bears look to rebound after falling in overtime against Northern Kentucky on Saturday. After leading for three quarters, the offense sputtered in the final frame, setting up the eventual loss in the extra period.
Lucy Ibeh put together her third-straight double-double in the game, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Ibeh leads the team in multiple categories, including scoring (16.0 ppg), rebounding (9.8 rpg) and steals, with 12.
Hannah Langhi and
Randrea Wright contribute double-digit points per game as well, adding 12.4 and 10.0 per outing, respectively.
Also contributing against NKU were
Jayla Cody, scoring 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds, and
Savanna Walker. Returning to the court after missing the first five games of the season, Walker chipped in 10 points of her own, hitting all four of her free throws in her return to action.
Central Arkansas and Little Rock have faced off in each of the last two seasons, with the Trojans taking both games. Prior to 2019, it had been since 1987 that the teams had faced off against one another. The Sugar Bears hold a commanding lead in the series with a 22-4 all-time record against the Trojans.
Little Rock has already gone through a gauntlet of a nonconference schedule, facing three SEC teams, among other mid-major opponents. That being said, the Trojans have claimed wins over Vanderbilt and Auburn, taking down two SEC foes by eight points or more.
Most recently, the Trojans fell to No. 15 Texas A&M, 65-50. Raziya Potter scored a career-best 23 points to lead Little Rock, who held the Aggies to just nine points in the third quarter. Sali Kourouma, returning after a two-game absence, scored 15. Overall, the Trojans held Texas A&M to 11 points below their scoring average.
Despite her two-game absence, Kourouma leads the team in points by over 50 total points. Averaging 22.0 ppg, she ranks seventh in the nation in scoring, hitting the 30-point mark twice this season. Potter and Krystan Vornes check in behind her, each scoring 10.1 points per game. Vornes also leads the team in rebounds, pulling in 7.9 per outing.
Head coach of the Trojans is Joe Foley. A five-time Sun Belt Coach of the Year, Foley is in his 19
th season at Little Rock. He has led the Trojans to 11 seasons of 20-wins in the last 14 years.
