Women's Basketball Faces Alcorn State at Home on Tuesday

CONWAY, Ark. – After securing another home win this weekend, the Sugar Bears basketball team has an opportunity to stretch the home win streak to three games against Alcorn State. The Lady Braves visit Conway for a midweek matchup at the Farris Center that starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

UCA rides high into the week after defending home court against a talented Louisiana Monroe team on Saturday. The experience of some of the more tenured players showed out against the Warhawks, as Lucy Ibeh and Hannah Langhi led all scorers with 17 apiece. Ibeh also added 13 rebounds to clinch her first double-double of the season, the seventh of her UCA career.

On the season, Ibeh leads the Sugar Bears in multiple categories. She tops the roster in scoring (14.3 ppg), rebounds (9.3 per game) and steals (9). The Lagos, Nigeria native has three-straight games with double-figure scoring, all three with 15-plus points.

Langhi, after missing the season-opener, has also contributed double-digit scoring in each of the games in which she has appeared. The senior has also averages over five rebounds a game, and leads the team in blocked shots.

In addition to the post players, senior Carley Hudspeth had her second-straight game with multiple three-pointers on Saturday. After a slow start for her standards, the Grenada, Miss., native hit a pair against Oklahoma, before splashing three triples against the Warhawks, including a pair in the first quarter.

Freshman Randrea Wright continued to show good things in her opening campaign. With other players hitting shots, Wright pulled in a career-best six rebounds while also hitting a season-high in assists, dishing out seven helpers. She is the first UCA freshman since 2017 to hit seven assists in a game.

Alcorn State has started the season with an 0-3 record, dropping two road games against Marquette and Mississippi State before falling at home against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday.

The 69-58 final against Southeastern Louisiana was a result of the free throw differential. Alcorn converted just seven of its 14 attempts, while SLU hit 18 of its 21 freebies. Diamond Hall led the way with 14 points, followed by Kailyn Watkins' 13.

Hall and Watkins lead the team in scoring, each netting eight per game. Watkins and Nia McCalphia each lead the team with four made three-pointers. As a team, Alcorn averages 52 points per game, scoring 63 at Mississippi State.

Head coach of the Lady Braves is Nate Kilbert, now in his second season. A lifer in the SWAC, Kilbert has over 18 years of experience as a head coach at different SWAC schools. He is the all-time winningest head coach at Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

Tip off against Alcorn State is set for 7 p.m. at the Farris Center. A link to live stats can be found here, and a link to the live stream can be found here.
