LAKE CHARLES, La. — Coming off a 63-39 rout of Houston Baptist on Wednesday and winners of 4 of their last 5, the Sugar Bears will look to keep their momentum going on Saturday when they face off against the McNeese Cowgirls at the H&HP Complex in Lake Charles at 1:00pm.

The Sugar Bears (6-6, 2-1 Southland) will be meeting up with a McNeese team looking for its first Southland Conference victory of the season, starting 0-2 with road losses to two of the league's top teams in Stephen F. Austin (82-51) and Sam Houston State (92-59).

The Cowgirls, who are 3-8 overall with all of their victories coming at home, have been plagued by turnovers – averaging a Southland-worst 21.2 per game while allowing their opponents 22.5 points per game off of turnovers. In Thursday's loss at Sam Houston State, the Cowgirls gave up 35 points off of 33 turnovers; and at SFA had 29 turnovers that led to 31 Ladyjack points. While the Cowgirls are 13th in the league in turnovers, the Sugar Bears are tied with Abilene Christian atop the league – averaging just 15.9 per game.

The Sugar Bears come into Saturday's matchup giving up a Southland-best 52.8 points per game, which ranks 14th nationally, while the Cowgirls rank last in the Southland – allowing 79.2 per contest. The teams hold the same position in field goal percentage defense, with the Sugar Bears' opponents shooting just 36.4 percent this season while the Cowgirls' opposition is knocking down 49.1 percent of its shots from the field. The Sugar Bears are also 22nd nationally in 3-point defense, with opponents hitting just 25 percent – including 1-of-27 (3.7 percent) through three conference games.

The series has been favorable to the Sugar Bears in recent years, as they enter Saturday's game looking for their 8th straight win over the Cowgirls. Last season the Sugar Bears rolled to a 76-45 win in the Farris Center, hitting 22 of 28 free throws and knocking down six 3-pointers. Alana Canady was responsible for 9 of those free throws, going 9-for-12 en route to 9 points and 9 rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench. Carley Hudpseth had 8 points in just 5 minutes, knocking down both of her 3-point attempts.

Following Saturday's game, the Sugar Bears will be back in the Farris Center for their next two, hosting New Orleans next Wednesday at 7:00pm and Sam Houston State on Saturday the 11th at 1:00pm.
