THIBODAUX, La. — Following a disappointing showing at Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, the Sugar Bears will look to get back on track and snap a 3-game losing skid on Saturday when they take on the Nicholls Colonels at 1:00pm in Stopher Gymnasium.
After suffering a 102-41 loss to a red-hot SFA on Wednesday, the Sugar Bears wrap up their road trip with a Colonels team that is just 4-12 overall and 1-6 in Southland Conference play – their lone win a 67-65 defeat of Southeastern Louisiana last weekend. The Colonels' other victories this season have come against ULM, and a pair of non-Division I opponents in Paul Quinn College and Southern University at New Orleans. The Colonels are coming off a 58-54 loss at Northwestern State on Wednesday, Nicholls' fifth loss of the season by six points or less – including four in conference play by an average of just 4.5 points per game.
The Colonels are led by 6-foot senior forward Chrystal Ezechukwu, who averages a team-best 12.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while also leading the team in blocks with 17. Airi Hamilton averages 11.1 points and 4.7 rebounds and is shooting 84.2 percent from the free throw line, while Tykeria Williams averages 10 points and 4.2 assists and has knocked down a team-best 20 3-pointers on the season while also leading the way with 38 steals. Loan-Anh Johnson also adds 10 points a game, shooting 49.6 percent from the field.
The Sugar Bears will be looking to end a short skid against Nicholls, having dropped both of last season's meetings after winning the previous five.
After Saturday's game, the Sugar Bears will be off on Wednesday before resuming play in the Farris Center next Saturday against Abilene Christian.
