NACOGDOCHES, Texas — After dropping a pair of games at home last week, the Sugar Bears begin a two-game road swing on Wednesday as they meet up with one of the Southland's top teams in Stephen F. Austin before heading to Thibodaux, La. to take on Nicholls on Saturday.

The Sugar Bears will face a Ladyjack squad that has just one Southland loss – a 53-50 setback to New Orleans – and has won 9 of its last 10 games overall. SFA is 6-1 inside Johnson Coliseum this season and has won its last 11 Southland games at home, and are 49-4 on the home floor over the past four seasons . The Sugar Bears will be looking to snap a five-game skid against the 'Jacks, and are seeking their third win in Nacogdoches – having defeated SFA 55-53 in 2015 and 67-63 in 2017. SFA swept last year's meetings, winning 59-53 in the Farris Center before scoring a 79-43 victory in Johnson Coliseum.

Wednesday's matchup features the top two defensive teams in the Southland, with the Sugar Bears ranking 12th nationally at 54.1 points per game allowed and the 'Jacks 26th at 55.6. In conference play, SFA is allowing just 48.2 per game, while the Sugar Bears are 2nd in the league at 53.5. SFA boasts one of the strongest rebounding units in the country, ranking 26th in rebound margin at +8.5 per game.

SFA is paced offensively by sophomore guard Stephanie Visscher, who averages 14.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Aiyana Johnson, a 6-foot-3 forward/center, is second on the team in scoring at 13.1 per game and leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.4 per contest. Junior guard Marissa Banfield averages 11.5 points per game and is one of the nation's most prolific 3-point shooters, ranking 16th in the country at just over three 3s per game – having hit a total of 43 on the season.

For the Sugar Bears, sophomore Alana Canady has reached double figures scoring in four straight games, averaging 11.3 in that span. Junior Hannah Langhi, who averaged 13 points in last season's meetings with the 'Jacks, has averaged 8 rebounds per game over her last four games. Senior guard Taylor Sells, who missed last year's game in Nacogdoches due to injury, has averaged 11.3 points and 7 rebounds per game during that same stretch.

Wednesday's meeting will be the first of the season between the Sugar Bears and Ladyjacks, with SFA visiting the Farris Center on Feb. 20.
