Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Marcellus Hill

BEARS FALL IN FINAL MINUTE

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – It was an unlucky ending for Central Arkansas men's soccer team as they conceded a goal in the 90th minute, leaving no time to recover an ultimately falling 1-0 to Missouri State in Springfield. This loss gives the Bears their first loss of the season and is also the first time this season in which they were unable to find the back of the net.

UCA (2-1-1) had a difficult time creating scoring chances in this match, posting only three total shots and none on target while Missouri State posted 15 total shots, hitting four of them on frame.

First Half

  • Missouri State created the first scoring opportunity of the match in the 13th minute as two well hit strikes forced UCA goalkeeper Marc Olsen into tough saves. Olsen's double save would be the first of three total on the night.
  • Missouri State would come close to finding the back of the net late in the first half after a strike from MSU's Matthew Bently rattled the left woodwork. It would be the last chance for either team as they headed into halftime scoreless.

Second Half

  • The second half saw UCA create the first scoring opportunity in the 54th minute when midfielder Katsuoyshi Kimishima's 25 yard free kick strike flew just over the crossbar.
  • Olsen would come up big for the Bears again in the 74th minute, denying MSU's Aadne Bruseth a late winner on a hard hit strike down the middle that forced Olsen to parry it out.
  • UCA would ultimately concede with 45 seconds left in the match on a well taken goal from MSU's Aadne Bruseth as he found the bottom left corner, leaving Olsen with no chance.

Ross Duncan Quotes

"Tonight was a battle. That's a tough place to play and we knew that going in. Our opponents had big motivation from previous results and we knew we were going to have to match their intensity. This was a really good test for us early in the season. It's tough to take a loss, especially when we competed so hard, but this will make us better."
