CONWAY, ARK. – Two goals scored in the first 20 minutes of the match would be enough to propel the Bears over a very impressive Dayton squad that has been noticeably an NCAA Tournament contender yearly.
After dropping their first match of the season Tuesday night to Missouri State in very disappointing fashion, conceding a goal with less than a minute to play, Central Arkansas (3-1-1) bounced back and showed great resilience in the second half to hold off and defeat Dayton 2-1.
First Half
- It didn't take the Bears long at all to get on the scoresheet as striker Niklas Brodacki found the back of the net less than two minutes into the match on a fantastic strike just inside the 18 yard box.
- Dayton would equalize two minutes later after striker Jonas Fjeldberg found the back of the net on another fantastic striker, leaving UCA keeper Olsen with no chance.
- Central Arkansas would earn a penalty in the 20th minute and Brodacki stepped up and converted from the spot, scoring his second goal of the night and giving the Bears a 2-1 advantage.
- Matthias Bendiksen and Kasper Andersen would nearly make it three for the Bears in the 37th and 41st minute of the match as both saw their stikes fly just wide of the net on 20 plus yard efforts.
Second Half
The second half featured mainly a battle of possession as neither team was able to create many chances, the only clear cut chance came from
Niklas Brodacki in the 86th minute, as he saw his header from a
Daishi Uekuri cross rattle the crossbar, denying him of his hat trick.
Central Arkansas finished the match with 10 total shots, hitting four on target while Dayton had nine total shots with only one on target, that one on target being their goal.
Ross Duncan Quotes
"These kinds of wins are massive. This what we've been talking about all off-season, all summer and all of preseason. If we want to be a great team, we have to beat teams like Dayton. They are a storied program, really well coached and have lots of talent on the field. I thought we made it difficult for them early, but you could see the quality they had. They came back and made it difficult for us in the second half. I think what really won us the match tonight was our commitment to defend, even from the attacking guys."
