JONESBORO, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears managed only three hits and stranded 11 baserunners in a 6-4 loss to the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Tuesday night at Tomlinson Stadium.
The Bears (15-18), trailing 6-2 heading into the ninth inning, rallied for two runs without the benefit of a hit. Josh Ragan was walked, Cole Fiori was hit by a pitch and Beau Orlando drew another walk from ASU reliever Kollin Stone. Tyler Smith's fielder's choice scored the first run and a throwing error by second baseman Will Zimmerman allowed Fiori to score and make it 6-4.
Stone then struck out Alonso Bibiano to end it.
UCA scored first with a single run in the top of the first, again without a base hit. Jay Anderson drew a leadoff walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and came in on a double-play ground ball. The Red Wolves tied it up in the second, went ahead 2-1 in the fourth, then added three more runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth.
ASU (21-13) finished with 12 hits and three errors and hit a pair of home runs. A combination of four pitchers held the Bears to three hits, tying their season low. Designated hitter Marco Navarro, pinch hitter Alonso Bibiano and left fielder Brett D'Amico accounted for all of UCA's hits.
UCA starter Mark Moyer (2-2) took the loss, going 4.1 innings and allowing 6 hits, 4 earned runs and striking out 3. Taylor Anders and Logan Gilbertson both tossed scoreless innings for the Bears.
UCA continues its five-game road trip with a non-conference weekend series at Tennessee Tech beginning Friday in Cookeville, Tenn.Â
