COOK AND WEBER NOTCH WIN, BEARS FALL TO HBU

CONWAY – On a gorgeous day at the Beach Bear Sand Courts, the University of Central Arkansas beach volleyball team competed hard, but ultimately dropped a 5-0 decision to Houston Baptist Friday afternoon.

UCA (4-7) was hoping to exact some revenge on the Huskies, who barely outlasted the Bears last weekend at the ULM Warhawk Challenge. However it was HBU who spoiled the Central Arkansas plans and earned the victory behind some strong defense and clutch playmaking.

MATCH NOTES

  • The lone victory of the day came in the extra match where Kayla Cook and Hailey Weber knocked off the HBU No. 6 team 16-21, 21-16, 15-9.
  • UCA No. 1 pair Haley Tippett and Colene Hamilton (8-3) dropped just their third point this season to the top-Huskies duo 15-21, 16-21.
  • Mackenzie Dear and Aly Brinkley could not find their rhythm on Friday, falling by a 11-21, 19-21 margin to HBU's Bailey Banks and Natalie Bennett. The couple is now 5-6 this season.
  • In the final match to complete on the day, Elleson Dunagin and Jessica Martinez took the Huskies No. 3 pairing of Kylie Bryan and Lindsay Harris to three sets, but fell just short 21-19, 13-21, 10-15.
  • In a three-set thriller, Kellen Dunn and Faith Hasness were barely bested 19-21, 21-18, 15-17 at the No. 4 pairing.
  • In another heart-stopping decision, the UCA combination of Kelsie Sager and Kelley Douglas just missed out on a victory, dropping a 19-21, 21-18, 10-15 result.
