SUGAR BEARS STRUGGLE FROM OUTSET IN LOSS AT STEPHEN F. AUSTIN

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Central Arkansas fell behind 20-5 in the first quarter at Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday and never recovered, suffering a 79-43 defeat as the Ladyjacks remain perfect at William R. Johnson Coliseum this season.

The Sugar Bears (11-14, 6-9 Southland) couldn't get anything going in the opening period as they committed eight turnovers and made just two baskets, while the Ladyjacks (23-4, 14-1) took advantage by shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 3-of-7 from 3-point range in quickly building what would prove to be an insurmountable lead.

The Sugar Bears played the 'Jacks even in the second quarter, with each team scoring 11, as SFA built a 31-16 halftime lead. But SFA continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Sugar Bears 48-27 – the most points the Sugar Bears have allowed in a half this season – as the Ladyjacks moved to 15-0 on their home floor this season and kept pace atop the Southland Conference standings.

Maddie Goodner equaled her season high with 13 points, going 5-for-5 from the field and 2-for-2 from 3-point range while playing all 40 minutes; while Hannah Langhi added 11 points in 19 minutes off the bench - her seventh time this season scoring in double figures. Alanie Fisher tied a career high with 13 rebounds, her fourth double-digit rebound game of the season.

The 'Jacks got 19 points from Stephanie Visscher, 16 from Imani Johnson and 12 from Alyssa Mayfield. SFA was 10-of-25 (40 percent) from 3-point range from the game while the Sugar Bears were just 3-of-10 (30 percent); and went 17 of 28 from the free throw line while the Sugar Bears were 8 of 14.

The Sugar Bears return to the Farris Center for their final two home games of the season beginning with Abilene Christian on Saturday, followed by Sam Houston State next Wednesday. The regular season concludes on March 9 at Northwestern State, with the Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas beginning the following week.
