BEARS CLINCH SUN BELT REGULAR SEASON TITLE

CONWAY_Ark. - In their final home match of the season, Central Arkansas hosted fellow Sun Belt affiliate Howard, who came into the match with a 2-2 conference record. Attacking power was at a premium for the Bears as they defeated Howard 4-1, giving them four straight Sun Belt Conference victories heading into the conference tournament next week.

This is the Bears' first season competing in the Sun Belt Conference, and after dropping the first conference match, the Bears went on to win four straight and finish with a 4-1 conference record. Tonight's win also secured the regular season title for the Bears as well as a number one seed heading into the conference tournament.

First Half

  • The Bears got off to a flying start, breaking the deadlock in the fourth minute on a Soren Jensen bullet into the bottom right corner, capping off a Kasper Andersen low ball across the box.
  • Jensen nearly grabbed his second goal of the match four minutes later after taking a ball across the box from Katsuyoshi Kimishima and smashing a strike that was headed for the top left corner, but the Howard keeper was equal to the task
  • The Bears would take a 2-0 advantage in the 14th minute on a lovely move that began with an Edoardo Calzola diagonal ball, flicked across the box by Andersen, and then headed into an open net by Alberto Suarez
  • The Bison would get one back three minutes later on a good finish inside the penalty area, passing it into the bottom left corner just out of reach of the outstretched arms of Marc Olsen and that's how the first half would end.

Second Half

  • The second half saw little action in the first 15 minutes until Soren Jensen grabbed his second goal of the match in the 65th minute. Kimishima was able to get down the left touchline and get a left footed cross that was headed home by Jensen.
  • The Bears grabbed their fourth goal late in the match on another lovely move that began with Vicent Abaso, followed by a first time flick from Kimishima, capped off by a curling finish from Jensen, who completed his hat trick.

Ross Duncan Quotes

"This was amazing. The best part for me was it was on our home field, on senior night, just a special night that these guys will remember forever. I think the benefit that we've got playing Friday is going to be massive, but it guarantees nothing. We've got a big target on our back now because these teams didn't want us to win conference in year one, so they want to make sure we don't get the double and it's our job to prove them wrong."
