HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — After struggling in a 65-38 loss at Tulane on Friday, the Sugar Bears look to bounce back on Monday against a team struggling in its own right in Northern Kentucky to wrap up the two-game road trip. The first-ever meeting between the Sugar Bears (1-3) and Norse (1-4) will tip off at 10:00am CST on Hoops 4 Health day at NKU for area elementary students.
In their three losses this season, the Sugar Bears have averaged just 40.7 points per game – but on Monday will meet an NKU team that opened the season 0-4 while allowing 67.3 points per game. The Norse broke their skid at home on Thursday when they defeated Omaha 57-40.
Both teams will be looking for improved shooting on Monday as the Sugar Bears enter the game shooting 38.2 percent from the field for the season while the Norse are connecting on just 31.9 percent of their shots. Freshman forward
Terri Crawford leads the Sugar Bears in scoring at 9.3 points per game and freshman
Brionna Budgetts led the team with 13 points and 8 rebounds at Tulane; while NKU counters with 5-foot-11 senior guard Molly Glick - averaging 14.3 points per game with 9 3-point field goals thus far on the season. By contrast, the Sugar Bears have hit just 10 as a team while the Norse have buried 24 from beyond the arc. Freshman guard Ivy Turner averages 9.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists for the Norse.
After Monday's game, the Sugar Bears will return to action in the Farris Center next Saturday when they host Jackson State. After a trip to Texas A&M on Dec. 4, the Sugar Bears conclude non-conference play in the Farris Center against Crowley's Ridge on Dec. 7 and Central Baptist on Dec. 15.
NOTES
• Monday's game will be the first for the Sugar Bears in Kentucky since they met Louisville in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament to cap a 28-4 season – their first of back-to-back NCAA appearances, going to the University of Texas the following year.
• The Sugar Bears will be facing their first opponent from the Horizon League, which consists of Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, IUPUI, Milwaukee, Oakland, UIC, Wright State, and Youngstown State in addition to Northern Kentucky.
