Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Marcellus Hill

BEARS DROP SUN BELT OPENER

CONWAY, AR - It was the first ever Sun Belt Conference match for Central Arkansas men's soccer team as they hosted Appalachian State at the Bill Stephens Complex in Conway.
The Bears saw over 60 percent possession and generated more shots on target than App. State, however still fell 1-0 on one of the most unorthodox goals you'd ever see in soccer.

First Half

  • The match got off to a fast start as UCA's Soren Jensen saw the first opportunity come in the 6th minute on a strike down the middle that called to App. State keeper into action very early.
  • App. State would break the deadlock in the 15th minute on a goal that saw an attempted clearance deflect off a mountaineer and into the UCA net.
  • The Bears would nearly equalize late in the first half as Jensen's 40th minute corner kick found the head of Ole Kjoerholt, who rattled the crossbar on a thunderous header.

Second Half

  • The second half saw the Bears continue to dominate possession in search of an equalizer with their first chance of the second half coming in the 59th minute on a Kasper Andersen strike that was just off frame.
  • The 68th minute saw Andersen presented with another opportunity, but again his strike flew just wide of the left post in an attempt to sneak it by the keeper on a near-post strike.
  • The Bears kept the pressure on and again nearly found an equalizer in the 83rd minute on an Alexsi Morel strike down the middle that forced another save from the App. State keeper.

Ross Duncan Quotes

"I felt like we missed a big opportunity today. We gave the game away. Yes, we responded well, yes we fought back, yes we created enough chances to win, but it was essentially a game given to our opponent. The timing of the Tuesday game is good. We plan on responding and you'll see a much different performance on Tuesday night."
