BEARS GRAB FIRST SLC VICTORY

CONWAY, AR – The University of Central Arkansas women's soccer team grabbed their first Southland Conference victory tonight against Houston Baptist, winning 2-0 on goals from Emma Hawkins and Morgan Rollow. The Bears won the possession battle, seeing 57 percent of the ball and also finishing with 16 total shots, hitting eight of them on frame.

First Half

  • The Bears took an early 1-0 advantage in the 7th minute, as Hawkins took a pass from Hadley Dickinson at the top of the box and smashed it into the bottom left corner with her right foot. It is the freshman's second goal of the season.
  • The Bears nearly grabbed a second late in the first half when Lauren Hargus turned her man inside the box and hit a hard strike to the near post, forcing the HBU keeper to make a good save.
  • Morgan Hurd again nearly doubled the Bears' advantage in the 41st minute, but her strike was cleared off the line by an HBU defender.

Second Half

  • The second half saw a lot of half-chances for the Bears up until the 71st minute when Morgan Rollow took a pass across the box from Hawkins, and side footed it home into the bottom right corner on a lovely first-time finish. It is Rollow's first goal of the season for the Bears.
  • Lauren Hargus nearly scored a third for the Bears in the final minute as her strike inside the box was just too close to the HBU keeper, who was able to deny Hargus the last minute goal.

Coach Bishop Quotes

"I think tonight was a continuation of what we've been doing in a lot of games this year, we just did a better job tonight at putting shots on frame to give ourselves a chance to score. The two that we scored were really good opportunities and we made good on them. We have to keep winning to give ourselves a chance so we'll do some recovery tomorrow and go out and display a good effort Sunday."
