Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Marcellus Hill

BEARS FALL LATE TO SFA IN CONWAY

CONWAY, AR _ It was a very frustrating night for Central Arkansas women's soccer team as they fell late in their Southland Conference match to Stephen F. Austin. Despite creating many opportunities and finishing the match with 18 total shots, the Bears were just unable to find the back of the net.

First Half

  • The first 20 minutes saw the Bears mostly in Stephen F. Austin's half. Emma Hawkins would nearly open the scoring in the 21st minute on a left footed strike that flew just past the left post on its way out.
  • The Bears would see another opportunity go begging when Morgan Rollow's 28th minute strike was saved by the SFA keeper, again keeping the Bears off the board.
  • The Bears finished the first half with 10 total shots, hitting two of them on frame.

Second Half

  • The Lady Jacks would see the first opportunity of the second half in the 62nd minute, nearly scoring inside the penalty area, but UCA keeper Clara Bornet was equal to the task, recording a double save to keep the match level.
  • The Lady Jacks would break the deadlock in the 70th minute on a strike from outside the 18 yard box that flew into the top corner, leaving Bornet with no chance.
  • The goal would be the final opportunity created in the match and the Jacks would hold on for the slight 1-0 victory.

Coach Bishop Quotes

"We played hard tonight. We did what we needed to do to give ourselves an opportunity to win the game. We had the energy we needed, we had the movement of the ball, we had the right tactics defensively. We did a good job at going out and playing the game the right way in every aspect except for scoring. We had our chances and we have to do a better job at putting the ball on frame and making the keeper make saves. We had a ton of scoring chances, but didn't put any of them on frame and I think that was the difference tonight."
