BEARS GRAB FIRST EVER SUN BELT CONFERENCE VICTORY

CONWAY, AR _ In a Sun Belt Conference match that saw very few chances created for either squad this afternoon, Central Arkansas men's soccer was able to make the most of their opportunities by scoring a late goal in the second half. The lone goal would be enough to sustain victory and put the Bears back in contention for a potential Sun Belt Conference title.

First Half

For the first time this season, the first half saw no shots posted by either team. It was a battle of possession and a test of patience for the most part. The Bears however, finished the first half with 58 percent possession and dominated the field of play.

Second Half

  • The second half saw more action beginning with an opportunity in the 51st minute for UCA. Striker Niklas Brodacki showed great skill to get to the byline and get a cross into the box. It would find the feet of Katsuyoshi Kimishima, whose first time effort was denied by a great save. The save however, was parried into the path of Kasper Andersen, who scuffed his follow-up effort and the chance went begging.
  • The 61st minute saw the best opportunity for the Chanticleers on a curling effort that was heading into the top corner. UCA keeper Marc Olsen was equal to the task however, diving at full stretch to tip it onto the crossbar and keep it out on a spectacular save.
  • The 77th minute saw the Bears finally break the deadlock on a long throw routine that was capped off by Truls Krabbesund Hansen, scoring his third goal of the season.

The Bears finished the match with just four total shots, hitting two of them on frame, one of course being the lone goal scored in the match.

Ross Duncan Quotes

"Today was a big step for us. We've been working toward this result for quite some time. We knew it was going to take everyone to beat a team of this quality and we got big performances all over the field. This puts us in a position to continue to challenge for the targets we set at the beginning of the year. We now have a week to prepare for what will be another challenging opponent."
