Bears Surge Late to Win Second Sun Belt Match

STATESBORO, Ga. – The University of Central Arkansas men's soccer team returned to the pitch for a Sun Belt Conference matchup with the Georgia Southern Eagles. The Bears scored two goals late in the second half from Alberto Suarez and Niklas Brodacki. The Bears claimed a 2-1 victory. UCA improved to 7-5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Eagles fall to 6-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Georgia Southern got on the board first with a goal off the foot of Azaad Liadi in the 22nd minute. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the half. The Bears outshot Georgia Southern 6-4 in the first half.

The Bears were resilient and battled throughout the second half. In the 75th minute Suarez took a shot from outside the box and buried it into the upper left corner for the equalizer. Less than three minutes later, Will Laufer sent a ball into the box and Brodacki finished with a header into the upper right corner. Brodacki's goal was the game winner.

Marc Olsen stopped two shots and picked up his sixth win on the season. Olsen improved to 6-5-1 on the season in net for Central Arkansas. As a team, UCA notched 14 shots, seven on goal, while Georgia Southern finished with 10 shots, three on goal.

"Tonight was a big achievement for a lot of reasons. That was a very strong team with a lot of weapons to throw at us. Playing on the road in this conference is really difficult, so to come home with 3 points is huge for us. I thought everyone stepped up tonight. To a player, guys embraced their roles and gave us everything they had. It paid off and it was good for the guys to see that the tough work they're putting in is paying off," said head coach Ross Duncan.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday, October 22, as they travel to Memphis for a match with the Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
