BEARS FALL TO 8TH RANKED SMU

DALLAS, TEXAS - It was a tough night for the University of Central Arkansas men's soccer team as they traveled to Dallas to take on eighth ranked SMU. SMU came into tonight's match undefeated on the season and haven't lost a home game since 2016.

Despite not finding the back of the net, the Bears finished with seven shots on target, including a few one on one opportunities with the SMU keeper. The Bears would concede in the 26th minute and were just unable to answer, ultimately falling 3-0.

First Half

  • UCA nearly pounced on the Mustangs immediately in just the second minute of the match when striker Niklas Brodacki found himself in a one on one with the SMU keeper. His low hit strike however, was denied by the keeper, keeping the match level.
  • Goalkeeper Marc Olsen was a busy man tonight for the Bears. He would keep the match level in the 14th minute, quickly diving down to his right on a great save from inside the penalty area.
  • Kasper Andersen would test the SMU keeper in the 15th minute on a strike that was headed into the top right corner, but again the keeper was equal to it and kept the match level.
  • SMU would break the deadlock in the 26th minute on a strike that was just out of the reach of Olsen, who managed to get a hand on it before it crossed the goal line.
  •  On the stroke of halftime, SMU would double their advantage in the 42nd minute on a rebound finish from inside the six yard box, and that would be the last opportunity of the first half.

Second Half

  • UCA would have the first opportunity in the second half when Edoardo Calzola forced another save from the SMU keeper in the 51st minute on a hard hit strike down the middle.
  • The Mustangs would get their third goal of the night in the 60th minute on a simple finish from five yards out, leaving Olsen with no chance.
  • UCA would nearly get one goal back in the 75th minute when Soren Jensen's corner hit the post, but fell into the path of Nate Lancaster, whose follow-up  header flew just over the crossbar.
  • The Bears would get one final opportunity in the 82nd minute when Brodacki again found himself in a one on one position with the SMU keeper, but again the keeper was equal to the task.

Ross Duncan

"I felt like the difference was that they punished us for our mistakes, but we didn't punish them for the mistakes they made. They gave us some opportunities to break them down and we just didn't take advantage. I really was proud of the energy we brought. The guys came out flying and we showed we're a stout group.

This is not a team that's going to go scoreless much longer. I think with the chances we're creating and the guys we have in our attack, they're going to execute starting very soon. We were very intentional about how we approached the match. We saw it as an opportunity to measure ourselves against one of the best in the country and I thought on the balance of play, we did ourselves proud."
