OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY LEADS SUGAR BEARS TO SWEEP OF HUSKIES

Conway – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears entered Saturday's match against the Houston Baptist Huskies looking to move to 3-0 on the week. The Sugar Bears would do just that, using a stellar offensive performance that saw them hit .324 to pick up their eighth sweep of the season, 25-17, 25-11, 25-20 over the Huskies.

The sides would trade points to open the first set before Central Arkansas (13-4, 3-1 SLC) used an 8-1 run to break a 5-5 tie and take a 13-6 lead. The Huskies would cut the
UCA lead to three on a pair of occasions, but the Sugar Bears took the final four points to close the set. As good as the Central Arkansas offense was on the day, defense was the order of business in the first set, as both teams hit under .200 and tallied at least 24 digs. Sophomore Emily Doss led the UCA defense in the set, digging nine attacks, while senior Haley Tippett added six digs and fellow senior Kellen Dunn turned in five kills.

The momentum carried over into the second set, as Central Arkansas built a 12-4 to open things up. An HBU timeout did nothing to stop the Sugar Bear attack, as UCA extended the lead to 21-8 before the sides traded the final five points. UCA hit a blistering .739 for the set, knocking down 17 kills on 23 swings with zero errors, and was led by senior Samantha Anderson, who tallied six kills while hitting .857. Tippett turned in five kills on an .833 attack percentage, while senior Savanah Allen hit .714 and added five kills.

Central Arkansas again started strong in the third, building a 13-6 lead before Houston Baptist battled back to cut the Sugar Bear advantage to 16-12. A quick 3-0 run from Central Arkansas extended the lead back to 19-12, before the teams traded points to close out the match. Tippett added five kills and four digs to her line in the set, while Doss picked up five digs.

On the day, Tippett collected her eighth double-double of the season with a match-high 12 kills and 10 digs, while Allen hit .588 with 10 kills and a pair of blocks and Anderson added nine kills and three blocks. Sophomore Bailey Waddington had a match-high 34 assists and two aces, while Doss collected a match-high 20 digs.

Central Arkansas opens a three-match road trip with a pair of matches on the road next week. The Sugar Bears will head to Natchitoches, Louisiana to face off with the Northwestern State Lady Demons at 6:30 PM on Thursday, before moving on to Hammond, Louisiana for a 1:00 PM match at Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.
