SUGAR BEARS TOP LADY DEMONS 3-1

After dropping their first Southland Conference match of the season to Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas,  the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears (14-4, 4-1 SLC) won their next three matches and looked to keep the streak going tonight versus Northwestern State (6-9, 2-3 SLC.  The Sugar Bears would extend their win streak to four after defeating the Demons three sets to one, winning the first 25-14, dropping the second 21-25, before taking the third 25-18 and the fourth 25-21.
 
The first set saw the Sugar Bears in a battle as they constantly exchanged points in the beginning. It would get as close as 13-8 before Central Arkansas went on an 8-0 run, extending their lead to 21-8 before the Lady Demons would score another point. The set would end on a final score of 25-14 as Samantha Anderson led the way with six kills.
 
The second set saw Northwestern State claw their way back into the match with a 25-21 win. Despite Central Arkansas jumping out to a quick 5-1 lead, the Lady Demons would counter with a 11-2 run of their own to take a lead of 11-7, forcing UCA to call a timeout. Central Arkansas would continue to fight throughout the set, battling back to tie things  up at 20-20; however, they would only score one more point as the Lady Demons rallied off four straight points before ultimately scoring the final point of the set. Anderson and Haley Tippett each tallied five kills in the set.
 
The third set mirrored the first, as series of constant lead changes early on saw UCA leading 14-12 midway through before separating themselves again. An 8-3 run would be the difference maker in the set as UCA would extend their lead 23-17 before ultimately closing out the set 25-18.Bailey Waddington handed out 13 assists in the set, with four Sugar Bears tallying at least three kills, while Emily Doss picked up nine digs.
 
Despite trailing early on in the fourth set 9-3, the Sugar Bears would rally back to eventually tie the set at 13-13, forcing Northwestern State to call a timeout. From there, it would be a series of constant ties and lead changes as they played to a score deadlocked at 20 before Northwestern State used another timeout. The Sugar Bears would score five of the next six points en route to their fourth straight Southland Conference victory. Abbie Harry tallied five kills in the set and Doss added nine more digs.
 
Anderson would finish the match with 15 kills, and Tippett would pitch in with 14 kills and 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the season, while Waddington picked up her first career double-double with 43 assists and 12 digs. Defensively, Doss finished with 26 digs, and Amari Mitchell had eight blocks.
 
Central Arkansas looks to extend their win streak to five Saturday afternoon as they travel to Hammond, Louisiana to face Southwestern Louisiana.
