BEARS, LADY LIONS SPLIT SLC DOUBLEHEADER

Hammond, Louisiana – The Central Arkansas Bears and Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions met at SLU's North Oak Park for a Southland Conference doubleheader. The Lady Lions would take the day's first game 5-3, before the Bears rallied for a 2-1 victory in the night cap.

Central Arkansas (24-20, 12-8 SLC) would waste no time in taking a lead in the second game of the day, getting a leadoff walk from right fielder Morgan Felts, a single from first baseman Kaylyn Shepherd, a sacrifice bunt from shortstop Kate Myers, and an RBI single from Libby Morris to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Southeastern (29-17, 13-7 SLC) evened things up with an RBI sacrifice bunt from third baseman Mahalia Gibson in the third, but the Bears would answer back in the sixth inning with an RBI double from Myers to score pinch runner Kayla Crutchmer.

Kailla Searcy got the start in the circle for the Bears and limited the Lady Lions to a run on three hits and three walks in 3.0 innings of work, but it would be Rachel Haberman (7-2) who picked up the win after tossing 4.0 innings of two-hit, four-strikeout relief.

SLU would strike first in the series opener, scoring three unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning, before tacking on another run in the fourth.

Central Arkansas would rally in the fifth, when left fielder Oakley Sisemore would score on a wild pitch and Felts would launch a two-run home run to cut the SLU lead to 4-3.

That would be as close as the Bears could get though, as the Lady Lions would add an insurance run in the bottom of the inning.

Rio Sanchez (8-7) took the loss for UCA despite allowing just a pair of earned runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings.

With weather in the forecast for tomorrow afternoon, first pitch has been pushed up an hour. The Bears and Lady Lions will now meet to decide the series at 11:00 AM.
