HANCOCK, BEARS WALK OFF WITH SERIES SWEEP

CONWAY, Ark. _ Junior catcher William Hancock hit a walk-off solo home run to lead off the 12th inning Sunday to give the University of Central Arkansas Bears a 4-3 victory over the UT Martin Skyhawks and a series sweep at Bear Stadium.

The Bears (22-13) completed the non-conference sweep over the Skyhawks (5-28) after 10-4 and 3-0 wins on Saturday. Sophomore reliever Mark Moyer earned the victory with five innings of relief, allowing four hits and one run and striking out three.

Hancock, who entered the game in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter, took a 3-1 pitch over the right field fence off UT Martin reliever Austin Buzick. Hancock, Buzick's first and only batter faced, finished 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.

UCA took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against Skyhawk starter Sam Folks. Junior left fielder Hunter Strong had an infield single and scored on shortstop Josh Somdercerff's RBI double to center field. Senior catcher Justin McCarty added a sacrifice fly for the early two-run lead.

UT Martin got single runs in the second and third innings and Folks shut the Bears down until the sixth when they re-took the lead on Strong's RBI single that scored Coby Potvin. The Skyhawks tied the game in the top of the ninth with two hits and a UCA error. The Bears got two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth but did not score, sending it to extra innings.

UCA, which improved to 4-2 in extra-inning games this season, left two runners on base in the 11th inning but finally came through in the 12th. UT Martin reliever Peyton Cain had been solid for six innings, allowing six hits but just one run in relief of Folks. UT Martin elected to go with Buzick in the bottom of the 12th and Hancock won it with his third home run of the season.

Strong finished 3 for 5 with an RBI and run scored, while Somdecerff went 3 for 6 with an RBI and run scored.

UCA begins a five-game road swing at Wichita State on Tuesday night. The Bears, in third place in the league standings, return to Southland Conference play on Friday night at league-leader Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas.
