SUGAR BEARS SEEK TO EXTEND STREAK VS COWGIRLS IN FINAL TRIP TO BURTON COLISEUM

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Over the past three seasons, Central Arkansas has won nearly 90 percent of its games outside of Conway against Southland Conference teams, going 25-3.

Unfortunately for the Sugar Bears, a pair those losses have come in the last three weeks as they have dropped two of their last three on the road – falling 78-70 in double overtime at Southeastern Louisiana in their last road outing on Feb. 3 and coming up short at league-leading Stephen F. Austin 59-46 on Jan. 24, with a 61-53 win at Northwestern State sandwiched in between.

They'll look to reverse that trend on Wednesday when they travel to Lake Charles, La. to square off against McNeese State, with tipoff set for 6:30pm.

It has been friendly territory of late for the Sugar Bears, who have won the last five overall against the Cowgirls and have come away victorious in 5 of their last 6 visits to Lake Charles. In the last three visits, the Sugar Bears have won by an average of 17.3 points, including 23-point victory last season as Central Arkansas swept the season series.

The Cowgirls come into Wednesday's game having won 5 of their last 7 with the only losses to the league's first- and second-place teams in Lamar and Stephen F. Austin.

After going 4-2 while playing six straight on the road due to the Southwest District Livestock Show & Rodeo in Burton Coliseum, the Cowgirls returned to their home arena on Saturday with a convincing 69-47 win over a Southeastern Louisiana team that defeated the Sugar Bears 78-70 in double overtime in Hammond a week prior.

Wednesday's game will likely be the last meeting between the teams in Burton, as McNeese will begin play in its new on-campus arena – currently under construction – next season. The Sugar Bears have a 5-3 edge over the Cowgirls at Burton.

McNeese is led by 5-foot-7 sophomore point guard Caitlin Davis, who averages a team-best 11.7 points, 5.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Senior guard Dede Sheppard is second on the team at 10.4 points per game, while 6-foot senior forward Mercedes Rogers averages 8.2 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds. Sophomore guard Regan Bolton tops the Cowgirls with 37 3-pointers made this season, averaging 6.3 points per game on 31.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc, where 82 percent of her baskets have come this season.

For the Sugar Bears, senior center Kierra Jordan is one of three players in the Southland averaging a double-double in league play, with averages of 13.9 points and 10 rebounds two-thirds of the way through the conference season. Senior forward Taylor Baudoin, the 7th-leading scorer in the Southland this season at 14.2 points per game, enters Wednesday night's contest needing just 8 to become the 8th Sugar Bear to reach the 1,000-point mark in the program's 12-year Division I era and 27th overall in program history.
