Hammond, Louisiana – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears continued a three-match road trip at Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon, looking to extend their winning streak to five consecutive matches. The Sugar Bears did just that, rolling to a 25-18-25-9, 25-18 sweep over the Lady Lions.
The first set saw the sides evenly matched early, playing to an 11-11 tie before Central Arkansas (15-4, 5-1 SLC) won four straight points to open up a 16-11 lead. Another 4-0 UCA run started by kills from
Abbie Harry and
Kellen Dunn put the Sugar Bears up 22-14, before another kill from Dunn closed out the set.
Samantha Anderson tallied three kills in the set, while Dunn, Harry, and
Savanah Allen each added a pair.
The Sugar Bears established control early in the second half, opening things up with a 6-2 run, eventually pushing the advantage to 20-6 before rolling to their biggest set win so far this season. Central Arkansas hit an astonishing .700 as a team and held Southeastern Louisiana (1-17-, 0-6 SLC) to an .040 attack percentage, getting seven kills from Anderson, and four each from Allen and Dunn.
The teams would again trade points to open the third set before Central Arkansas used a 7-1 run to turn a 5-8 deficit into a 12-8 lead. The Lady Lions would cut the lead to one on numerous occasions but the Sugar Bears refused to relinquish the advantage, using a 5-1 run to break things open before a kill from
Ravin Rhodes ended the match. Harry added four kills to her total in set, while Rhodes turned in three solo blocks.
On the day, Anderson led Central Arkansas with 11 kills, and Dunn added nine as
Bailey Waddington handed out 31 assists. Defensively, Emily Doss had 12 digs and Rhodes and
Amari Mitchell each had three blocks.
Central Arkansas closes out its road trip with a single game next weekend, heading to San Antonio, Texas to take on the Incarnate Word Cardinals at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
