SUGAR BEARS HIT ROAD FOR TWO, FACE INCARNATE WORD WEDNESDAY

SAN ANTONIO — Following a 51-39 win over Southland Conference preseason favorite Lamar on Saturday, the Sugar Bears look to remain undefeated in league play as they hit the road for a pair of games this week beginning with a trip to Incarnate Word at 6:00pm on Wednesday.

It will be the third trip to San Antonio for the Sugar Bears (11-4, 4-0 Southland), who have yet to lose to Incarnate Word (3-11, 2-1) in four meetings, including a 2-0 mark at UIW.

In the previous four meetings, the Sugar Bears have won by just over 15 points per game, with the slimmest margin being a 9-point game in 2015, a 58-49 Central Arkansas victory. Last season in Conway, the Sugar Bears scored a 63-50 win.

After a rough non-conference slate that saw the Cardinals start 1-10 with their lone win against Division III Mary Hardin-Baylor, UIW has found some success early in the conference season – winning their last two over Sam Houston State and Nicholls after a 66-57 loss to McNeese in the Southland opener.

The Cardinals are scoring just 51.1 points per game for the season, shooting 31.9 percent from the field and 24.3 percent from 3-point range. Sophomore guard Imani Robinson, last year's Southland Freshman of the Year, leads UIW with 10.6 points and 2.1 steals per game. In last year's meeting, Robinson had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Utah transfer guard Gabbi Bowie is UIW's second-leading scorer at 8.2 points per game, while 6-foot-3 freshman Sydnee Wynn is third at 7.8 and leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per contest.

Through four Southland games, UCA senior center Kierra Jordan ranks 2nd in the conference at 12.5 rebounds per game and is 8th in field goal percentage at 53.8 percent. Junior guard Kamry Orr and senior guard Angel Williams rank 2nd and 4th in 3-point percentage at 53.3 and 50 percent, respectively. For the season, senior forward Taylor Baudoin ranks 6th in the league in scoring (14.7), 11th in rebounding (6.5) and 2nd in field goal percentage (52.8)

The Sugar Bears rank 2nd in the nation in scoring defense for the season at 48.9 points per game, and are giving up just 45 per contest in league play. UIW ranks 3rd in Southland play, giving up 59 per game.

After Wednesday's game with UIW, the Sugar Bears finish their road trip in Thibodaux on Saturday when they take on Nicholls. They return to the Farris Center on Jan. 17, hosting New Orleans and the Southland's leading scorer in Randi Brown, then host defending Southland co-champ Abilene Christian on the 20th.

NOTES
• In their six-game winning streak, the Sugar Bears are allowing just 45.3 points per game, and no opponent during that time has scored more than 50. In their three-game homestand, they allowed just 43.3 per game
• Senior center Kierra Jordan has recorded four straight double-doubles (the first Sugar Bear to do so since Courtney Duever in January of 2014), averaging 12.8 points and 12.5 rebounds
• Senior guard Angel Williams, who ranks 2nd in the Southland in 3-point percentage for the season at 44.4 percent, has knocked down more shots from long range (20) in 14 games this season than she had in 79 games over her first three seasons (17)
