CONWAY — Winners of four straight overall and their last 14 at home, the Sugar Bears look to continue their winning streaks as they host Sam Houston State tonight at 7 in the second of a three-game homestand.
Coming off a 63-47 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday, the Sugar Bears (9-4, 2-0 Southland) look to begin the new year where they left off in 2017 as they face off against a Bearkat (3-7, 0-1) team that they have dominated of late – winning the last 8 in the series, including a 27-point victory last season in the Farris Center.
The series has been a lopsided one, with the Sugar Bears leading 12-4 overall and 8-0 in the Farris Center, having last lost to the Bearkats 64-48 in January of 2013. During the Sugar Bears' 8-game win streak over the Bearkats, they have won by an average of 12.4 points per game – including an average of 23 in the last two.
It will be a reunion for junior guard
Kamry Orr, who began her collegiate career with the Bearkats in 2015-16 when she was SHSU's third-leading scorer at 8.8 points per game. She averaged 13.3 points per game for the Bearkats in their four-game run in the Southland Conference tournament, which ended with a 69-62 loss to the Sugar Bears in the championship game. This season, Orr is the Sugar Bears' second-leading scorer at 13.5 per game and leads the team with 2.4 steals per game.
In four career games,
Taylor Baudoin has averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds against the Bearkats. Baudoin (14.5) and Orr are the Southland's 6th- and 7th-leading scorers this season, while SHSU is led by Jennifer Oramas at 11.2 per game, and ranks 6th in the Southland at 3.5 assists per game.
The Sugar Bears will conclude their homestand with preseason Southland favorite Lamar on Saturday at 1:00pm before hitting the road for a pair against Incarnate Word and Nicholls.
