THIBODAUX, La. — In their last 24 games outside Conway against Southland Conference opponents, going back to 2016, the Sugar Bears are 23-1 – having won their last 12.
They'll look to keep that streak going on Saturday as they wrap up their road trip against Nicholls in Stopher Gymnasium, with tip set for 1:00pm.
Coming off a victory at Incarnate Word on Wednesday, the Sugar Bears (12-4, 5-0 Southland) are riding a 7-game winning streak and are undefeated in league play through five games for the first time as a Southland member.
The Colonels (8-8, 3-2) have won their last two contests and will be looking to snap a three-game skid against the Sugar Bears, who won 61-52 in Thibodaux last season for head coach Sandra Rushing's 500th career victory.
The Sugar Bears hold a 14-7 advantage in the series and are 7-4 in Thibodaux, having won 6 of the last 8 meetings at Stopher.
The Colonels gave the Sugar Bears fits for three quarters last season, leading 29-25 at the half and holding even after three quarters, but the Sugar Bears pulled away with a 17-8 fourth quarter to leave Thibodaux with the win. The last three meetings have all been tight contests as the Sugar Bears have won by an average of just 6.7 points with all three games decided by single digits.
Nearly a third of the way through the conference season, Nicholls is third in the Southland in scoring at just over 69 points per game, and average 66.2 for the season. The Sugar Bears have the league's top scoring defense, giving up just 43.0 per game in conference games and 48.0 for the season, which ranks 2nd nationally.
The Colonels are led by Cassidy Barrios, who ranks among the Southland Top 10 in scoring (5th - 14.8), rebounding (2nd - 9.9), assists (6th - 3.3) , blocks (6th - 1.1) and steals (2nd - 3.0) per game.
In conference play, Barrios is averaging 15.4 points and a league-high 12.2 rebounds per game, and she is tied with
Kierra Jordan for the league lead with four double-doubles each in Southland games. Jordan ranks 2nd in the conference behind Barrios at 11 rebounds per game.
Tykeria Williams is scoring 13.4 per game for the Colonels, which ranks 10th in the league, and has knocked down 35 3-pointers on the year, ranking 5th.
For the Sugar Bears,
Kamry Orr – coming off a career-high 27 at UIW – is averaging 13.8 points per game for the season (7th in the Southland) and 16.0 in conference play. She ranks among the league leaders in steals (3.0 per game - 3rd) and 3-point percentage (58.8 - 2nd) in Southland games.
Taylor Baudoin ranks 6th in scoring for the season at 14.6 points per game and is 11th in rebounding at 6.6 per game. She is tied for the league lead in field goal percentage, hitting 53.2 percent of her attempts.
In last season's win over the Colonels, Baudoin had 18 points and 7 rebounds while Jordan added 14 and 9.
