Buies Creek, North Carolina – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team returned to action on Sunday afternoon, falling to Campbell University 1-0 in the second match of a four-match road trip.
Central Arkansas (0-4) controlled possession early in the match, leading to chances for
Niklas Brodacki and
Pepe San Roman in the first ten minutes. The Camels would then takeover, putting a pair of shots on goal that UCA keeper
Marc Olsen was able to stop over the next 15 minute of action.
Dango Kumwenda gave the Bears their first real chance of the half in the 26
th minute, firing a shot that was deflected by Campbell keeper Matthew Mozynski.
Kyosuke Kubota would put another shot on frame in the 36
th minute, but Mozynski again proved up to the task. With time running out in the first half, the Camels would break the tie, as Bastien Oberli played a cross to the near post, where Alex Cam Egeonu headed it just under the bar for the 1-0 lead.
Central Arkansas would generate just one shot in the first 25 minutes of the second half, a shot from Brodacki that was blocked by a Campbell defender, before turning up the pressure over the match's final 20 minutes.
Kasper Andersen would head a ball over the crossbar in the 71
st minute, and Brodacki would fire high in the 74
th before San Roman gave UCA its best chance of the second half in the 76
th minute, firing a shot off of a free kick just inches over the bar.
On the day, the Bears took eight shots and placed two on goal. Kubota and Kumwenda each put a shot on frame, while Brodacki took three shots and Roman took two. In goal, Olsen made three saves.
Central Arkansas finishes up its road trip with a pair of matches in Dayton, Ohio next weekend. The Bears will take on the University of Dayton at 6:30 PM Friday night, before facing off with Fort Wayne at 10:00 AM on Sunday.
