Starkville, Mississippi – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team hit the road on Sunday, travelling to Starkville, Mississippi to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Despite an active day offensively from
Dayna Mounie, the Bears found themselves on the wrong side of the decision, falling 3-0.
The Bulldogs took an early lead, as Gabriella Coleman found MaKayla Waldner, who collected the ball in the UCA box and gave the MSU the 1-0 lead in the 4
th minute. Mississippi State would add to the lead just a minute-and-a-half later, when Catalina Perez cleared the ball forward to Courtney Robicheaux, who slid it past UCA keeper
Anna Hughes for the goal. Mounie went to work three minutes later, putting three shots on goal over the next four minutes, but the Bears would head into the half trailing 2-0.
After an own goal from the Bears would push the Mississippi State lead to 3-0 in the 55
th minute, Mounie would get UCA's final shot on goal in the 59
th minute.
On the day, Central Arkansas put four of seven shots on goal, led by Mounie, who was on frame with four of her six attempts.
Ashley Smith had the final shot for the Bears. In goal, Hughes made one save, while
Lauren Mercuri made a pair of saves.
"The score line wasn't a very good representation of today's match," said UCA head coach Jeremy Bishop after the match. "It was a really tight match, hard fought. They were able to get their goals from our miscues. We will learn from those mistakes and be better moving forward."
The Bears return home for a pair of matches next weekend, hosting Louisiana-Monroe at 7:00 PM on Friday night, before welcoming Arkansas State to the Bill Stephens Complex at 7:00 PM Sunday night.
