FIRST-HALF BARRAGE LEADS BEARS PAST WARHAWKS

Conway – The Central Arkansas Bears scored three first-half goals and added a fourth for good measure in the second half, taking down the ULM Warhawks 4-0 at the Bill Stephens Complex on Friday.

The Bears (2-3) wasted no time in getting the scoring started, as Kristen Ricks found the head of fellow defender Stacia Carroll, who directed the ball home for her first goal of the season in the 10th minute. Just four minutes later, Ashley Smith would launch a cross into the box, where it was collected by Hadley Dickinson, who hammered it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Dayna Mounie would cap the scoring in the first half, gathering a pass from Lauren Hargus and knocking it in for her third goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Central Arkansas would tack on one final goal in the 74th minute, as Mounie and Alex Moore combined with Smith, who closed out the game with her first goal of the season.

"It was great to get some goals tonight," said UCA head coach Jeremy Bishop. "Over the first few matches, we created some solid scoring chances but didn't finish them. Tonight we did. We put out a really solid effort and dictated play with our work rate and focus, and we've got to keep those things going. Although we gave up a couple of good scoring chances to ULM in the second half, our defense held strong. Anna made a couple of big saves and kept the clean sheet, which is great."

The Bears outshot the Warhawks 25-4 on the night and held a 16-4 edge in shots on goal. Camille Bassett led the attack, putting three of her four shots on frame, while Smith, Mounie, and Hargus each added a pair of shots on goal. In net, Lauren Mercuri went untested in the first half, and Anna Hughes made four saves in the second half.

The Bears return to the pitch on Sunday evening, hosting Arkansas State at the Stephens. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
