HAMMOND, La. _ Southeastern Louisiana stifled the University of Central Arkansas Bears' offense on Saturday and won both ends of a Southland Conference doubleheader at Pat Kennely Diamond.
The Lions won both games by scores of 10-3. The Bears (28-22, 15-11), dropped into fifth place in the SLC standings, with the series finale set for 1 p.m. Sunday. UCA, which had won six consecutive SLC series dating back to March 19, hosts Nicholls State in the final regular-season series next weekend at Bear Stadium.
The Lions (33-16, 19-10) used a five-run first inning and 13 total hits in the opener to cruise to the victory. SLU starter Mac Sceroler (9-1) only lasted six innings but left with a 7-3 lead and 5 strikeouts. Bryce Tassin held the Bears scoreless the rest of the way. UCA managed only eight hits, with one being sophomore Hunter Strong's fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to lead off the third inning.Â

UCA junior Tyler Gray also went six innings, allowing 9 hits, 5 earned runs while striking out 3 and walking 5. Junior right fielder Jansen McCurdy and junior second baseman Eddy Sanchez had two hits apiece.

Another five-run inning for the Lions was the difference in Game 2. SLU broke open a scoreless game with five in the third inning, and also added four more in the seventh. UCA rallied in the final two innings, scoring one run in the eighth on Dusty Wright's ground out that scored Keaton Presley, who had a leadoff double.
In the ninth, Justin McCarty doubled to left center, moved to third on Josh Somdecerff's single up the middle and scored on Presley's sacrifice fly. McCurdy then doubled in Somdecerff for the final run. McCurdy and Wright had two hits each for the Bears, who finished with 10. Starter Cody Davenport was touched for 9 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings, striking out 5 and walking 5.Â
