SUGAR BEARS CONTINUE TITLE QUEST VS SFA ON SENIOR DAY

CONWAY — On Saturday, the Sugar Bears will continue their quest for a Southland Conference regular season championship and the top seed in the conference tournament for the second straight season as they seek a return trip to the NCAA tournament. They'll try to extend their winning streak – the longest in the program's Division I history and 4th-longest active streak in the country – to 14 games.

And they'll do so in the final home game for the winningest set of seniors in the program's Division I era. Tip time is 4:00pm on ESPN3 and on 91.3 FM The Bear, with the seniors being recognized beginning at 3:50.

Seniors Raquel Logan, Brianna Mullins, Maggie Proffitt and Taylor Strickland will take the Farris Center court one last time seeking the 86th Sugar Bear victory over the last four seasons – the most among Southland teams and the most for any Central Arkansas seniors since 2005 during the program's Division II era.

In their four years in a Sugar Bear uniform, Logan, Mullins and Proffitt have not only led the team to some of the brightest moments and best seasons in program history, they have etched their names throughout the record book.

Logan holds the program's D-I era record for career blocks with 99 and has the highest career field goal percentage (.532) of any Sugar Bear in the program's D-I era with at least 150 made.

Mullins is the only Sugar Bear to amass more than 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 100 steals in the program's 11 seasons in Division I, and just the 2nd in the program's NCAA history – joining UCA Sports Hall of Famer Carone Harris. She ranks 4th in both career scoring and 3-pointers made during the program's D-I era, and is the program's D-I era assists record holder with 381 – which ranks 7th overall in school history. She will be making her 116th career start, putting her 3rd in program history behind only Harris and Megan Herbert. Two seasons ago, she recorded the program's only triple-double in Division I (and 6th in Southland history) with 24 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists against Southeastern Louisiana.

Proffitt is the 8th-leading scorer overall and 2nd in D-I history in the Sugar Bear record book, with 1,543 points entering Saturday's game – needing just four points to move up into 7th. Her 250 3-pointers made ranks 2nd overall in program history behind Harris' 271 and is the program D-I record by 84 over Micah Rice's 166 (in 13 fewer games), also ranking 4th in Southland Conference history. Proffitt has knocked down free throws at an 83.9 percent clip throughout her career, just behind Amy Wiedower's program record of 84.0.

Mullins and Proffitt are the only Sugar Bears to be named both All-Southland Conference and Southland All-Academic in back-to-back years, with each looking to make it three in a row this season.

Since transferring in from UMKC two seasons ago, Strickland has been part of the most successful two-year run in program history as the Sugar Bears have won better than 86 percent of their games, going 50-8 thus far, including going 32-4 (.889) against Southland teams. Strickland leads the team this season with a .939 free throw percentage and is third in field goal percentage at .540 and has three 20-point games this season, trailing only Proffitt's 6 and Kierra Jordan's 5.

The Sugar Bears (22-4, 14-2 Southland) will face an SFA team looking for revenge after a 67-63 Central Arkansas victory in Nacogdoches in January, dealing the Ladyjacks their first home loss of the season and ending what was then the nation's 4th-longest winning streak at 14 games.

The Ladyjacks (21-5, 12-3) sit just behind the Sugar Bears and Abilene Christian in the league standings, tied with Lamar for third place. With ACU ineligible for the league tournament, the Ladyjacks enter their final three games with their 18th Southland championship and the tournament's top seed still well within their reach.

In the first matchup this season, the Sugar Bears led by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter before a Ladyjack rally tied it up, but three last-minute turnovers doomed SFA and Taylor Baudoin sank a pair of free throws with under three seconds left to seal the four-point victory.

Proffitt had 19 in that game and Baudoin 17. Taylor Ross, the 3rd leading scorer in the Southland at 19.2 points per game for the season including 21.1 in league play, had 21 to lead SFA.

It will again be a meeting of the league's top offense and defense, as SFA leads the Southland and ranks 21st nationally in scoring at 76.3 per game while the Sugar Bears are the league's stingiest defense – allowing just 53 points per game, which ranks 5th in the nation.

After tomorrow's game, the Sugar Bears conclude the regular season on the road at Northwestern State next Saturday, then travel to Katy, Texas for their 7th straight Southland Conference tournament appearance. The league's top eight teams qualify (ACU and Incarnate Word are in their final season ineligible due to their transition to Division I), with the top two seeds receiving a double bye to the semifinals and the third and fourth seeds receiving a single bye. A win on Saturday would guarantee the Sugar Bears one of the top two spots. Last season, as the top seed, they defeated McNeese and Sam Houston State en route to the championship.
