ANOTHER 20-WIN SEASON FOR SUGAR BEARS AS THEY WIN 11TH STRAIGHT

CONWAY — Central Arkansas dominated from start to finish on Wednesday night, getting out to a 24-12 lead after one quarter and eventually extending the margin to as many as 35 before coasting to a 75-48 victory over Sam Houston State in the Farris Center.

With the win, the Sugar Bears (20-4, 12-2 Southland) reach the 20-win plateau for the fifth time in the last eight seasons – the most in the Southland during that span – and extend their winning streak to 11 games to match their longest in the program's Division I era. They also remain atop the league standings with four games to play in the regular season, one of three two-loss teams along with Abilene Christian and Stephen F. Austin, who meet in Nacogdoches on Thursday.

The Sugar Bears jumped on the Bearkats (2-21, 2-11) early, hitting 10 of 15 (66.7 percent) in the opening quarter, including going on a 15-0 run over 4:13 to build a 14-point lead that would all but bury the Bearkats.

Brianna Mullins led the Sugar Bears with 17 points, shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the field including 3-for-3 from 3-point range. She also added six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Maggie Proffitt added 14 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers, while Taylor Baudoin had 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds with three assists. Raquel Logan was the fourth Sugar Bear to reach double figures, scoring 11 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Logan also blocked one Bearkat shot to pull her into a tie with Courtney Duever for the program's Division I career blocked shots record with 96. Freshman Taylor Sells added a season-high eight assists, and has averaged 5.8 over her last four games.

The Bearkats were led by Angela Delaney's 11 points.

The win was the eighth straight for the Sugar Bears over the Bearkats, last losing to SHSU in 2013.

The Sugar Bears will look to run their streak to 12 – which would be the program's longest since 2004-05 in its Division II era – on Saturday when they host Houston Baptist, a team they defeated 80-49 in Houston on Jan. 11.
