BEARS READY FOR REMATCH AT INCARNATE WORD

Conway – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team will face off with a familiar foe this weekend, traveling to San Antonio, Texas for a rematch of last Sunday's game against Incarnate Word. The Bears and the Cardinals will face off at 7:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.

UCA (2-2-1) and UIW (1-4-1) played to a 1-1 draw at the Bill Stephens Complex just five days ago. The Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute when senior Wes Carson connected with sophomore Chris Holmes, who finished bottom-left for his third goal of the season. The Cardinals evened the match in the 79th minute, when Thomas Bibby slipped a pass to O'Neal Moore who charged through the UCA back line and tied the match with his first goal of the year.

"Coming out of last weekend, we evolved a lot as a group," said UCA head coach Ross Duncan. "We put together some very good performances, but were shown some important elements to our system that needed to be adjusted for us to be successful the rest of the year. That has allowed us to really dig in this week in preparation for this match."

So far this season, the Bears have been led by a trio of players offensively, in freshman Niklas Brodacki, Holmes, and Carson. Brodacki ranks 10th nationally and leads the Missouri Valley Conference with five goals, while the duo of Holmes and Carson are each tied for second in the MVC with three goals apiece. In goal for the Bears, freshman Marc Olsen has allowed six goals in five matches, ranking fourth in the MVC in goals against average (1.15), save percentage (.727), and saves per game (3.20).

UIW enters the match scoring an even 1.00 goals per game so far this year, while conceding 1.67 goals per game to its opponents. The Cardinals have spread the load evenly offensively, with six players scoring a single goal each. In goal, Jorge Guzman has a goals against average of 1.18 and a save percentage of .750.

"With conference play starting next weekend, this game gives us a final prep," said Duncan. "We feel we have addressed the areas we need to address and have a good idea of who we are and how we will compete the rest of the way."
