Nacogdoches, Texas – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears returned to action on Thursday night looking to push their Southland Conference winning streak to three matched. The Sugar Bears were unable to continue the highly efficient attack they displayed last week, hitting just .047 as they fell to the Ladyjacks in straight sets.
After totaling 16 errors in six sets last week, Central Arkansas (10-12, 4-6 SLC) nearly equaled that total in the first set, picking up 12 attack errors to just 13 kills while hitting .022 as SFA (13-8, 6-2 SLC) took the set 25-16. Sophomore
Kellen Dunn was the only Sugar Bear with a positive attack percentage tallying four kills and hitting .444. Sophomore
Haley Tippett was a machine defensively, picking up 10 digs.
The Sugar Bears rebounded in the second set, upping their attack percentage to .098, but ultimate found themselves in a 2-0 hole after the 'Jacks took the set 25-21. Junior
Megan Nash hit .444 to lead UCA with five kills, while Dunn and sophomore
Samantha Anderson each tallied three. Defensively, sophomore
Amanda Dimon and freshman
Rayna Jefferis each had seven digs.
The offensive improvement would come to a grinding halt in the third set, as the Sugar Bears hit .000 thanks to seven kills and seven errors in 32 attempts. The 'Jacks would take advantage of the errors, wrapping up the match with a 25-12 win in the set. Anderson and freshman
Amanda Beaton each picked up a pair of kills in the set.
On the night, Anderson led the Sugar Bears with a match-high nine kills, and Dunn and Nash each added seven kills. Freshman
Elizabeth Armstrong tied for the match-high with 25 assists, while Nash picked up five blocks. Tippett collected a match-high 19 digs, with Dimon and Jefferis adding 16 and 10 respectively.
Central Arkansas returns to action on Saturday, heading to Huntsville, Texas to face off with the Sam Houston State Bearkats. The match is set to begin at 2:00 PM.
