BEARS FALL TO CARDINALS

San Antonio, Texas – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team took to the pitch on Friday night, battling the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals. The match proved to be all UIW, as the Bears fell 8-1.

The teams headed into the halftime break with UIW holding a 3-0 lead thanks to Noah Keats first-half hat-trick, and the Cardinals got second-half goals from Ben Conway, Luis Esquivel, Matt Stolhmann, and Alonso Gallegos.

The Bears' goal came in the 75th minute, when Wes Carson played a cross to Alejandro Moquete, who slammed it in for his first goal of the season.

On the night, the Bears took eight shots and put three on goal, led by Moquete, who was on target with both of his shots. Daltyn Knutson also put a shot on goal.

"Tonight was incredibly disappointing, because we have put so much into this fight," said Central Arkansas head coach Ross Duncan. "Now we're faced with a unique challenge: how do we respond to such a humbling moment? It's very easy to fold and create excuses. Our challenge is to meet this moment head-on and rise rather than falter. A weak group will let this affect them for the rest of the season, but a strong one will let this drive them. I know in my heart that we've brought the players her that can make this program go., and that we do everything we can, every day, to train champions. But it's up to the players to look this challenge in the eye and meet it with their chests out and their heads held high."

The Bears are back in action on Sunday afternoon, taking on Houston Baptist at 1:00 PM.
