BEARS FALL ON LATE GOAL AT HOUSTON BAPTIST

Houston, Texas – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team returned to action on Sunday afternoon, heading to Houston, Texas to take on the Houston Baptist Huskies. A late strike by the Huskies gave them the 1-0 victory.

Central Arkansas (1-6) and Houston Baptist (4-4) both had chances in the first half, combining for 14 shots, but neither side was able to find the back of the net, heading into the break tied at 0-0.

The score would remain the same for the first 15 minutes of the second half, with the sides exchanging shots during the early minutes of the half, before HBU broke through in the 72nd minute. The Huskies got shots from Mark-Anthone and Marcelo Acuna, but Central Arkansas keeper Harrison Veith made a pair of miraculous saves on them.
Unfortunately, the Bears were unable to clear the ball, allowing Alex Baez and Darrell Johnson to connect with George Kelly, who tapped it in for the game-winner.

"We had a heroic effort from Harrison on the goal," said Central Arkansas head coach Ross Duncan following the match. "He made two incredible saves before they finally squeezed one over the line. He's really stepped up and shown that he's got leadership in him. And there are other guys who are showing that resolve as well. I saw today that we've got enough pieces to win."

On the day, the Bears took ten shots, putting two on goal. Sophomore Blake Stricker and freshman Carson Cacciatore each put a shot on target. In goal, Veith made seven saves.

"I saw guys transform today," said Duncan. "To play in the heat after what we went through on Friday was incredibly difficult, but we showed a lot of character. I challenged these guys to hit this challenge head-on, and they did that. I'm incredibly proud of what we put on the field today."

The Bears continue their road swing next weekend, travelling to St. Louis, Missouri for a 7:30 matchup against the 16th-ranked Bilikens of Saint Louis University.
