Newark, Del. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team opened the 2015 season on Friday night, making the trip to Newark, Delaware to battle the Blue Hens of the University of Delaware. Delaware got a goal early in the second half, and that would prove to be the difference-maker, as the Bears fell 1-0.
After a first half in which they were outshot 9-3, the Bears (0-1) seemed to settle in in the second half, as limited Delaware (1-0) to just three shots after the break. The first of those shots would be all the Blue Hens would need though, as Guillermo Delgado collected a cross from Ben Sampson and beat Central Arkansas keeper
Harrison Veith for the match's only goal.
Central Arkansas continued to battle though as
Daltyn Knutson had a shot blocked by the Delaware defense in the 61
st minute and another attempt go wide in the 83
rd minute.
Pepe San Roman saw a shot go high in the 89
th minute.
Chris Holmes had the Bears' lone shot on goal for the match, when his 15
th minute attempt was saved by Todd Morton. Knutson added three shots, while San Roman added one. Veith made four saves in goal for the Bears.
The Bears return to the field on Sunday evening, when they head to Catonsville, Maryland to take on twelfth-ranked Maryland-Baltimore County. The match will begin at 6:00 PM
