BEARS DROP SERIES CLOSER 2-0 TO LADY LIONS

Conway – The Central Arkansas softball team took the field on Military Appreciation Day looking to secure a sweep of the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions on Saturday morning. The Bears got the pitching performance they were looking for, but were held scoreless, falling 2-0.

Despite plenty of base runners from both sides, neither squad was able to find a run until the top of the fifth, when the Lady Lions (19-20, 13-4 SLC) took a 1-0 lead. Center fielder Katie Lacour opened the inning with a bunt single, but the Bears looked ready to escape the inning following a line out and a fly out. Designated player Amber Sather worked a walk and third baseman Megan Moore broke the scoreless tie, looping a single to right field to drive in Lacour and give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead.

SLU added an insurance run in the seventh thanks to a Central Arkansas error.

The Bears (26-15, 14-5 SLC) had plenty of opportunities, putting up four hits and drawing four walks, but were unable to capitalize.

Right fielder Briana Whisenhunt led the Central Arkansas offenses, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base, while third baseman Sam Forrest and second baseman Sarah Bigej each collected a hit.

Spencer Adkinson (3-4) went the distance to earn the win for the Lady Lions, allowing four hits and issuing four walks while striking out eight Bears in seven innings. Kylee Studioso (21-9) was at almost as good in a losing effort, limiting SLU to two runs, just one earned, on five hits and eight walks while striking out 10.

The Bears take a break from SLC, hosting Mississippi Valley State at Farris Field on Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM. They will then hit the road this weekend, travelling to Beaumont, Texas for a three game set at Lamar. The Bears and Lady Cardinals will face off at 5:00 PM on Friday evening, before wrapping up the series with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.
